Fashion in Film: Pulp Fiction (1994)

When style is so wonderfully simple, you often forget how important it was. Case in point: Uma Thurman as Mia Wallace in 1994′s Pulp Fiction.

Although Uma Thurman’s character appears only briefly, the simplicity of her look became quite popular from 1994 onwards; the black trousers, crisp white shirt and blunt, banged black hair and black pumps. The fierce black bob was a wig and it made Uma look almost unrecognisable.  You can still open up a fashion magazine today and find some sort of piece on the versatile white shirt, whether it is loose, tight or large. When in doubt wear black or white, or both. It’s hard to go wrong.

While working with costume designer Betsy Heinmann, the 6 foot tall actress couldn’t find a pair of close-fitting black trousers that were long enough. Heinmann just cut off another two inches, creating those slightly flared ends that looked good when Uma danced with John Travolta. She was comfortable and ready to twist to Chuck Berry’s You Never Can Tell.  Check it out for yourself below!
