Lyndsey Loves: eBay

I was sceptical about eBay for a while. I realised that it was because I was so ignorant about the whole thing and didn’t bother to find out about how it worked. I suppose I got an eBay education, haha!

Over the years eBay has greatly improved with more sellers and buyers registering which then resulted in a bigger array of products available, better quality, more value for money, and the introduction of the secure payment system we all know and love, Pay Pal.

What I soon realised was that many sellers weren’t just getting rid of unwanted items, they were actually making it into a business and a full-time job! There are sellers that put up new items daily and making a fortune for themselves out of it in the process. High street stores such as River Island, Karen Millen and many more have even now opened their own eBay stores to gain more customers who are eBay users from around the world.

More about eBay

  • eBay worldwide was first established by a man called Pierre Omidyar  back in 1995. It became known as The World’s Online Marketplace ®, enabling trade on a local, national and international basis. With a diverse and passionate community of individuals and small businesses, eBay offers an online platform where millions of items are traded each day.
  • Globally, 233 million people use it.
  • On any given day, there are millions of items listed on eBay across thousands of diverse categories, including antiques, toys, books, computers, sports, photography and electronics, amongst many others.
  • To become a seller or buyer all you need to do is register your details, and open up a PayPal account with enough money in it.
  • To list/ insert an item to sell, eBay Ireland charges a standard fee of 15c per list. You list your item in auction-style format with a starting price of up to €1.49, without reserve.
  • To add optional certain features to your list to enhance it, more fees will apply and these can range from 25c and upwards.
  • Before buying off a Seller do make sure you take into acount their ratings from other buyers. Do not buy off buyers that have a rating lower than 97%. There are so many reputable buyers with ratings higher than that, and trust me ratings mean alot.
